In Greek mythology the youthful Narcissus (origins of the term Narcissism) became so captivated by his own reflection in water that he eventually fell into the image and drowned.
An aspect of this ancient metaphor highlights the addictive element found in hypersexuality. Self preoccupation with unhealthy sexuality can lead to repetitive, irrational and uncontrollable anti social behaviours.
The difference between Narcissus and an individual’s obsession with their sexuality is the victimization of others.
